What is a Searchroll?

A Searchroll is a personalized search engine that provides results from a hand selected collection of trusted sites on any given topic.

What does Rollyo Search?

Rollyo searches the sites that have been chosen by you or by other users who have created a Searchroll that you have saved or are just trying out. So you can create Searchrolls, save Searchrolls created by others or both. You can create and/or save as many Searchrolls as you want.

Can I Edit My Searchrolls?

Yes, you can always make changes to a Searchroll that you've created. Just click "Edit Searchrolls" on the homepage to pop up a list of your Searchrolls.

Can I Edit Rolls Created By Others?

Yes. You'll see the edit button on all the results pages. You can edit any of the default Starter Searchrolls as well as any Searchroll created by any Rollyo user. Once you make a change, the roll becomes yours.

Can I Change the Order in Which Searchrolls Appear?

By default, the Searchrolls are ordered accordingly: The ones you've created, the ones you've added, the Starter Kit Searchrolls you've selected. If you create a username, you'll be able to control the exact order of all the Searchrolls you use.

Can I Share a Searchroll?

Yes. Every Searchroll you create has its own individual home page. But you need to create a username so we can give the Searchroll an address on the web (rollyo.com/your-username/your-Searchroll).

How Many Sites Can I Include in a Searchroll?

You can include up to 25 different sites in a Searchroll. We have found that the Searchrolls with 5-15 sites seem to be the most effective ones.

Why Do I Sometimes See Blog and News Results?

Rollyo enables you to search selected sites, blogs and news sources. So when you have a blog or blog(s) in your list of sites, you will see blog results. The same is true for news.

How are the Results Ordered?

Blog and News results are ordered chronologically while Web results are ordered by relevance.

Who is Powering the Search Results?

Yahoo is providing the basic results, so you get all the relevancy and speed you've come to expect from a top search site. Yahoo provides the engine and Rollyo puts you behind the steering wheel. Our friends at Feedster have allowed us to enhance their RSS results to provide you with timely blog results.

Can I Narrow My Search to One Site?

Of course. Every time you search a Searchroll, you will see a list of the included sources in the left hand column of the results page. Clicking on any of these sources will narrow the search to that one site. In addition, you can create a Searchroll that only includes a single site. If there is a site you search all the time (Amazon, eBay, Dictionary.com), just create a Searchroll with that site alone. That way you'll have all of your site searches and Searchrolls in one place.

Can I search parts of sites?

Rollyo searches entire sites or subdomains, but it will not narrow a search to a particular page or section. For example, you can create a Searchroll that includes sites such as www.cnn.com or support.apple.com. But if you enter a site such as cnn.com/politics, everything after the slash will be ignored.

Why is my Searchroll returning results from the whole web instead of just the sites I selected?

You may have a typo or an extra character in your list of site addresses. Double check the urls in your searchroll following the instructions above in "Can I Edit a Searchroll"
